East Broad Top – WE Shipley Drill Press – Video #1

Posted by – May 30, 2010

This WE Shipley drill press resides in the Machine Shop of the East Broad Top Railroad in Rockhill Furnace, PA. It has probably been out of service since the railroad shutdown as a coal hauling railroad in 1956. That was the last time that the Coal boilers and the stationary steam engine that powered the tools in the shops were operated. The press is quipped with The drill stand about eight feet tall. It has eight speeds and a Cincinnati Machine Tools power feed. This video shows a test run after the machine was rehabilitated and brought back into service in the spring of 2008. Fortunately it was in very nice shape with little wear and no damage or abuse except for a few small drill craters in the table surface and a few chips out of the T-slots from normal use. It is using the original rejuvenated leather spindle belt relaced with new leather lace. It is being operated by a mobile power rig built by FEBT member Dave Richards, who also rehabilitated the machine. Being portable the rig has only a 1/4 HP motor so the machine is run in very slow speed. The rig is designed to step down the motors speed and convert the V belt drive to the leather flat belt drive that the machine used traditionally. During this test it successfully In this video the machine can be seen drilling a 1/2″ hole in 3/4″ steel plate. In later tests after a larger 3/4 HP test rig was installed it successfully drilled a 2″ hole in 2″ steel. It is but the first of many machine tools in the EBT shops that

(HOAX) DIY Instructional Video 1c — Mylow Magnet Motor V2.0 — Rotor-Bearing Specs

Posted by – March 23, 2010

On May 28, 2009, we posted a report stating that recent evidence suggests that “Mylow” (Jose Enrique [Ricky] Concepcion) of Chicago was lying from the beginning when he claimed that he had successfully replicated Howard Johnson’s all-magnet motor; and that he has never actually produced a single working unit. pesn.com Mylow posted this video (9abrikvphzu) on May 12, 2009. Here, Mylow uses a caliper to measure his old rotor and bearing assembly (which isn’t the one from Bob that he’s using later in the instructional video series, but is the one he’s had for years, and which he shows in earlier demo videos). His rotor disc has a thickness of 5.15 mm. The bearing assembly shaft has a diameter of 51.03 mm. The opening for the bearing has a diameter of 35.02 mm. The length of the shaft to where the hub is that attaches to the rotor disc is 60.09 mm. The base that holds bearing has a diameter of 76.21 mm. It is 15.59 mm thick. The shaft protruding from the base has a diameter of 14.86 mm. It’s length is approximately 18.5 mm I should mention that I talked to Mylow’s brother on May 6. He said that the bearing assembly portion was made from a 2″ square aluminum rod, which he lathed to its cylindrical shape. The stock material is used for making high speed turbo pumps. He bore out the aluminum with a vertical drill press, to make way for the bearing and base shaft. He said the aluminum disc is more shiny than the bearing assembly. He said the rotor disc was made from a sheet of

Tool Shed Video, Tons of Used Tools, dated October 20, 2009.

Posted by – March 16, 2010

Please note there is an error in this video–this week I will be open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from one until 5, and I am closed on Saturday the 24th. There is conflicting info in the video itself, hopefully this will set things straight. Anyway, this is the latest in an ongoing stream of great deals from the Tool Shed, 578 West Boylston Street, Worcester MA, starring not me, but tons of great used tools. My goal this next couple of weeks is to clean out things that have been hanging around the store for much too long (things, not people), to make room for a whole lot of new things coming in as well. There is a 20% off table, and things will be added to it regularly. This also means that I’m going to be putting out, over the course of this week and next, things you won’t see in the video, there will be air tools, end mills, center drills, taps, drill bits, batteries and chargers for cordless tools, and all sorts of things I’ve been procrastinating on getting ready for sale. So there will be plenty of great things coming in that you won’t see in today’s video!
