V shaped groove to support the workpiece, a pin to lock the piece at the needed distance for the next hole. If the holes go all the way through, drive a small finish nail in the groove and place it the 5 mm from the drill bit after you drill the first hole , it is very easy and fast to repeat the pattern. If the holes are not all the way through, then a hinged device to hold the material is needed.

If this is a one time thing I don't think I would go to a lot of expense. I think I would make V shaped holder for the cylinder and then mark the bottom of the V for the desired distance apart you want the holes, which would be the diameter of the desired hole + 5mm. I would use dividers to do this or the points on a dial caliper. Then position the V holder on your drill press using a pointer in the drill chuck and clamp the V block. Then drill the desired size hole starting with a smaller pilot hole. Un-clamp the V holder and position and clamp it for the second hole, but clamp the holder in such a way that the cylinder will sit in the V without interference. Now you can drill the first hole in the cylinder, not the V holder. After doing this you can use a very snug dowel through the just drilled hole and the hole in the V holder to space each subsequent hole after that. Hope I haven't been confusing. Good Luck

you need a cross slide, check out this at princess auto http://www.princessauto.com/view-all-products-in-shop?keyword1=cross+slide
the little handles are divided into increments of an inch just do the math to convert to metric.if you need more info e-mail me.
