This is cool. Another method which is messier but also works is to put the iron in water and letting the iron rust this also works. I have tried all kinds of cores, my favorites are ferrite beeds and the welding rods. I got tired of fighting the bearings so I have moved to solid state, which for the most part i use air cores. Thanks for sharing!

Great Idea.
Nice work.
How much was the wire?
Is it cheaper than the welding rods?
Thanks for the video MAllen,
5 stars.
P.S. I love your motor!!!

Thank you Eddie,
The rebar tie-wire wire is cheap, I got it for free because the hardware store chain dont have humans on hand at checkout to give me a price. So they let me walk out the door with it for free. I was amazed!!!, but I am sure its price was under $10.00 USD. Oh and I learned that you can buy it coated already with polyurethane.

I researched about transformers and the research told me that for fast switching and low hysteresis loss was accomplished by reducing eddy currents. If I am wrong then correct me. I am trying to figure this out myself.

Tell the world a better way and we can all get this right the first time. I am doing my best deciphering the debunkers and the real truth. I am building blind and researching the basics first so I can understand first what I am building.

I hope it answers your question.

You are correct. If you have one big chunk of metal a lot of the energy will be eaten up by Eddie currents. Normal transformers use very thin plates that are insulated from each other.

Wire of that type/size/material is magnetically the same as using 'brads'; the small nails used for finish carpentry. A box of 100 is about $6.00. I have a 16 coil machine using them as the cores and could never imagine cutting wire in place of them.

Nice demo, however, I am going to try copper cores, using big wire and just separate and coat with the poly. I'm thinking of extended cores and pick up coils on there to try and capture some of the wasted magnetic fields, may or may not work on my unorthodox setup.
You have a great voice! I say that even though I was not fond of the song, but it was well done my friend!

Well singing Heavy Metal by myself on an acoustic dont work for my voice by yourself, so I did the next best thing... Was better than dead air and paint cans.

Thank you
