Go buy a Romex clamp. They are available in the electrical department. Then put it over your bit at the right depth and tighten the two screws tight.

get your drill bit measure 3/8 then get tape put it around drill bit so when your drilling the tape mark will stop the drill bit from going any farther

They do make drill bits for adjustable depth.

Makes sure you compensate for a bit with a pointed tip that is longer than the shank.

measure the amount of drill bit sticking out your drill. subtract 3/8" what ever the number is thats what size block of wood you will need. drill hole thru block then into your other piece. warning block may spin!!!

The easiest way is to use a little self control and a visual guide.

If you take a piece of tape and wrap it around the drill bit at the required depth it will give you the guide you need.

The other usual method is to use a stop rod, but if your drill did not come with one then you can build up blocks on top of the wood you are drilling if the tape will not work.

I just wrap tape around the bit measured at the correct depth as a guide
